uhhh..... my head hurts. I have just surfaced from a marathon anime session.
Riding Bean and
Gunsmith Cats were pretty fun action with a sprinkling of comedy. Worth it if you see them on offer, but I wouldn't fork full price for them.
I'm also waiting on my mate to come over so we can watch the last ep of
Samurai Champloo. Champloo is a lot like
Cowboy Bebop, although instead of combining blues and space, they combine hip hop style music with some Samurai action. The drawing style looks a little poor to me at times, but that's more than made up for by the superb animation during the numerous fightscenes and the wicked OST. There are quite a few filler eps where little seems to happen, but it's a definate thumbs up all round from me.
Of course I've also be watching
Initial D: The Fourth Stage. It's really more of the same formula, but now with a slightly changed drawing style (you might think of it as an evoloution) and nice cell shaded CG for the races. It doesn't give me the same heart pounding feeling as
the First Stage, but it is still all good, if a little fast paced for the plot (having read the manga, a lot of the plot seems skimmed over)
What else.... Well I've also watched the
Record of Lodoss War OVA, and I roughly agree with Elly's review. I did get a little annyed with it towards the end, but that was more due to my dvd player playing silly buggers than the quality of the show, which meant I only watched up to about ep 8ish. I also saw the epic
Juuni Kokuki. I did put that up a while back, but forgot to mention it on hte main page.
What else... Well I also finaly watched the end of
Galaxy Angel 3 which is hilarious, although not on the scale of
Azumanga or
Fumoffu, but along with S1 and 2, good for random insanity.
Bastard!! was fairly average.
Fushigi Yuugi starts out quite well, but I've taken a break after ep 19. The constant cries of 'Tamahome' and 'Yui-chan' were starting to grate. I'll probably come back to it and give you a final impression then.
I also started watching Macross. All of it. I started with the now decidedly average Macross movie
Macross: Do You Remember Love. It felt rushed, but I guess if I'd watched the TV series, things might have been different but hey. I then went on to watch
Macross Zero and
Macross Plus, both of which were superb and well worth watching, even without seeing the first movie/tv series. Zero was the better of the two. I'm now working my way through
Macross 7 which is bizarre if nothing else. Myleene is hot......
* Kane Sama exhales
OK, that's it for now. When I can be bothered I'll write more on the current shows out I'm watching, like School Rumble and Starship Operators
